About Our Academy

The Dog Grooming Academy was founded by Janet Budgen, an experienced dog groomer, salon owner and business owner with years of hands-on industry experience.

Janet started her career working as a professional dog groomer before going on to run her own successful salon. Through this, she developed a clear understanding of what students actually need to succeed in the real world — not just in theory.

Frustrated by the high cost of many courses, she created a training programme that is practical, supportive and affordable, without compromising on quality.

The course was built from real experience and designed to give students the confidence, skills and knowledge to begin their grooming career properly.

Students begin with structured online learning, covering coat types, equipment, grooming techniques, dog anatomy, health and safety, welfare and business basics.

They then move into practical training, completing ten full days in live, working salons. Students learn the practical side of grooming on a variety of the most popular breeds, gaining real hands-on experience in a professional environment.

This approach ensures students leave with real confidence and hands-on experience — not just theory.

The course is supported by recognised accreditation, with Janet holding accreditation as an assessor and examiner through NOCN (an Ofqual-regulated awarding organisation).

Students are assessed and signed off to a Level 3 standard, with assessment carried out by an NOCN-accredited assessor/examiner. NOCN is an Ofqual-regulated awarding organisation.
